5 Things to Know About Michael Floyd

dinner

The newest addition to the Patriots roster may have entered with some controversy, but many fans aren’t familiar with the former Cardinal. Here are five things you might not know about Michael Floyd.

  1. Floyd has always been a star when it comes to football. He starred for Cretin-Dermin Hall High School in leading his team to a 13-1 record and a berth in the state championship in Minnesota. He was twice named the player of the year in Minnesota by Gatorade and the Associated Press.
  2. Cretin-Derham Hall High School was a private Catholic school that was fairly expensive. In order to help pay off his scholarship, he helped the custodial staff clean the school the day before it opened.
  3.  Floyd continued his impressive young career at Notre Dame where he set several freshman records. Unlike may recruits at the time, he was a true freshman. He hauled in 7 touchdowns and 48 receptions, breaking the record held by his teammate Duval Kamara.
  4. Floyd was highly touted as one of the best receivers in the draft. He was the second wide receiver chosen at pick 13 by the Arizona Cardinals. It seems his good fortune continued when his first career reception was a deflected ball that Floyd caught for an 8 yard touchdown.
  5. Despite Floyd being in the league for almost 4 seasons, many think he has not reached his full potential. Weighing in at 6’3″ and 220 lbs, he has the size and strength that the Patriots are lacking.

Michael Floyd is an interesting addition to the Patriots roster. He is a player with plenty of upside, especially considering New England’s recent injuries to key contributors. Already without one of their biggest threats in Gronkowski, both Malcom Mitchell and Danny Amendola have missed time this year. With the addition of Floyd, Brady has a new target that he hasn’t had in a while. Someone with the size and speed of Floyd is hard to come by in the NFL. When the opportunity arises, Belichick and the Patriots organization will do what it takes to stay on top.
