With the first week of the NFL regular season completed, there were many things that I noticed on Sunday and Monday that made me think about the rest of the season and how it will play out. So, in this article I will list the 5 things that I took away most from Week 1.
1. Adrian Peterson is amazing. Who thought that on the first offensive play of the Vikings’ season that Peterson would run for a 78 yard touchdown. Well, he did. Peterson settled down a little bit after that yardage wise, but he still managed to score another rushing touchdown, plus a receiving touchdown. The Vikings lost to the Lions, but expect Peterson to have another amazing season.
2. The Patriots may struggle to win games this season. The Pats did beat the Bills on Sunday, but only by the skin of their teeth. Tom Brady did not have a very Tom Brady-like game and the defense struggled somewhat, too. The injury of tight end Rob Gronkowski looks like it may play a major role this season until the star tight end returns. Receiver Danny Amendola is already being plagued by injuries, making the Patriots’ injury concerns worse.
3. Larry Fitzgerald is back. After a poor 2012 season with no good quarterback to throw him the ball, Fitzgerald finally has a decent one this year in Carson Palmer. He had a nice game on Sunday, scoring two touchdowns against the Rams. I expect Fitzgerald to have a great year.
4. The Steelers stink. What a bad game by the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday. It took them until the end of the fourth quarter to actually score an offensive touchdown against a lowly Tennessee Titan defense. Ben Roethlisberger did not do much and the running game couldn’t get started at all. I expect a rough year for the Steelers.
5. The Eagles actually look pretty good. High expectations came along for Monday night’s game on the road against the Redskins. Under new head coach Chip Kelly, the Eagles were bound to run fast offensive plays and a lot of them. That was exactly what happened on Monday night. The Redskins defense couldn’t adjust to the new-look Eagles offense. Even though it got dicey towards the end of the game, the Eagles held on for the win. I expect the Eagles to impress more this week against the San Diego Chargers, which may be a close contest.
