The talk around your office water cooler this morning….
No. 1: Heads held high

Yes, The Bears entered the game as another 5-win team with a bad defense. But the Redskins needed the win to keep pace with the reviving Eagles and perhaps the Giants. The three teams may remain tied at 6-7 if New York wins tonight, but the ‘Skins hold the tie-breaker advantages at the moment.
When ESPN and the NFL Network show their projection of division winners, they show the Redskins winning the NFC LEast. They may be laughing at the division, but nobody is laughing at us.
No. 2: Redskins, Cousins in control of NFC East
For the record, we (Hog Heaven) see the Redskins as a six or seven-win team, but we are competing in a division that can be had with seven or eight wins. A story on classicalite.com says the Redskins are in control of the division … and of their destiny.
“Now 1-5 (in road games), they have to prove they can win at least one more game on the road — against Philly, who are also 6-7 after winning today — if they’re going to make it into the playoffs. That’s a tall task for the Redskins, and it’ll come down to controlling the ball on offense and grinding out possessions.
“If they can’t do that, chances are they will fail. That said, Kirk Cousins has surprised us already this season. Maybe he can do it again.”

No. 3: Kirk Cousins in line for a big payday, from Washington or Free Agency
Team owner Daniel Snyder might be scratching his head wondering how the Redskins are in division first place with a quarterback not named “Robert Griffin the Third,” but the rest of the world sees that Kirk Cousins has done enough to be in demand.
MLive.com caters to readers who call Michigan home. Cousins is a campus legend in East Lansing, Michigan. Thus, they tell his story in a favorable light. (Local boy makes good, blah blah blah.) MLive picked up a Shutdown Corner story from Yahoo Sports outlining prospects for Cousins’ next deal.
“The Holland Christian grad and former Michigan State standout has played well- and impressively at times – in his first season as the Redskins’ starter, and the timing couldn’t be better for him.”
You can read their story here, or go to the full Shutdown Corner story (“At this point, there’s no reason for Cousins to sign a team-friendly deal.”) at yahoo.com here.
No. 4: Redskins.com: Redskins – Bears Monday Stats Pack
The official team website published a long list of statistical trivia from yesterday’s game, perhaps of interest only to football nerds like Hog Heaven. This one caught my eye:
“With his 24 receptions on the day, Cousins (554) moved past No. 12 Norm Snead (531), No. 11 Eddie LeBaron (529), No. 10 Mark Brunell (542) and No. 9 Brad Johnson (544) for ninth-most career completions in franchise history.”
Receptions? I thought only receivers did that. QBs have completions, don’t they? Whatever, find the stats pack here.
No. 5: Bears vs. Redskins: Notes, Scribbles and Jots….
This SBNation story is written from Chicago’s point of view.
“I know the winter holidays are generally called the season of giving, but that doesn’t have to involve giving away wins at home to teams that come in winless on the road!”
Sounds like the stuff we used to hear about our own team … and may be heard again this year. That’s for another time. Today is the time to savor the win.
