Roster Update: Tyler Naquin was called up to replaced Lonnie Chisenhall who was placed on the bereavement list after a loss in his family. No word on how long Naquin will be up in Lonnie’s place at this time.

Player of the Game

Marlon Byrd‘s 2-run double in the bottom of the 8th put the Tribe up 6-5 and they would stay in the lead despite the bullpen’s best efforts.

Feathers Up

The Indians showcased plenty of power of their own tonight in the form of home runs by Yan Gomes and Jason Kipnis. The biggest hit of the night came in the bottom of the 8th when Marlon Byrd hit a deep double to dead center that scored 2 runs and put the Tribe up 6-5.

Josh Tomlin may not have had his best start of the season but he battled through the rough first few innings and ended up pitching 6.1 innings when it wasn’t clear if he’d make it out of the 4th. He retired 12 straight batters to close out his night giving up 4 runs (3 earned) but kept the Tribe in the game when he handed the ball over to the bullpen. He may not be the flashiest pitcher, but right now he’s getting the job done for the Tribe and it’s coming when they need it most with Carlos Carrasco on the DL.

Feathers Down

Josh Tomlin has been stellar all season for the Indians, generally avoiding being bitten by the long ball, something that has plagued Tomlin all his career. Unfortunately, he was not as lucky tonight as he allowed 3 home runs. After Tomlin settled down and seemed to find his groove, he turned the ball over to the bullpen and Bryan Shaw allowed another home run to lead off the 8th inning.

The Indians bullpen was less than stellar tonight. Bryan Shaw pitched just 0.1 innings, allowing 2 walks, 2 hits and 1 run. Cody Allen came on in the 9th and immediately gave up a lead-off double to Danny Santana. Santana would later score on a single by Eduardo Nunez to make it 7-6. Cody didn’t do himself any favors by walking Trevor Plouffe to put 2 runners on with 2 outs.

Final Score: Cleveland Indians 7 – Minnesota Twins 6

On Deck: The Tribe and Twins will do it again tomorrow afternoon at 4:10. Ervin Santana will square off against Corey Kluber who is coming off of the shortest outing of his season in which he lasted just 2.2 innings against Houston.
