5/21 Recap: We Don’t Love That Dirty Water; At Least Not Today

Jeff Manship is today’s player of the game with a .027 WPA. Despite Carlos Santana scoring the only run, Manship is your player of the game.

Feathers Up

The lone feather up this afternoon came off the bat of Carlos Santana in the 9th inning. He hit an opposite filed solo shot to left, above the green monster.

Feathers Down

Bauer made some mistakes early in the game, especially in the third inning when he have up five straight hits to Red Sox hitters. Xander Bogaerts  scored Mookie Betts on a single to break the scoreless tie and put the Sox up 1-0. Hanley Ramirez later singled, scoring two more runs in the inning. Bauer threw 31 pitches in the inning. Betts added on another run in the bottom of the 4th, making the score 4-0 Red Sox at the time.

The Indians had a wonderful scoring opportunity in the top of the 5th when they had a few runners on base. However, Joe Kelly made a great play on a ground-ball hit back to him as he threw home to get the lead runner to end the inning.

Red Sox pitcher Joe Kelly and the rest of the Sox pitching staff held the Indians hitters to just one hit. The Indians, coming into this game, was ranked 2nd in the America League in scoring.

Final Score: Cleveland Indians 1  – Boston Red Sox 9
