Roster Update: Jason Kipnis returned to the ball club a little earlier than originally expected, after just two days short of a month on the DL. To make room, Justin Sellers was sent back down to AAA.
Player of the Game
Ask T.J. House the difference between the White Sox and Orioles offense. After giving up five runs on five extra base hits in six innings in his last time out, House had things under control tonight. He gave up just two weak singles in the fourth inning and two more runners in the fifth, but otherwise shut down the Sox through six innings. House was spectacular, striking out eight and walking just one. Unfortunately, he was pulled in the seventh inning after just 87 pitches and Scott Atchison gave up the tying run, costing House the win and an earned run.
Feathers Up
Milestone Alert: In his 1,035th career game, Michael Bourn finally got his 1,000th career hit in the sixth inning against Hector Noesi. Right after the Bourn single, Michael Brantley hit one of his own to increase his hitting streak to 14 games. Jason Giambi also had a minor milestone with his 440th career home run.
The Tribe took advantage of a poor throw in the ninth to start a rally that tied the game. Michael Brantley started the inning off with a single, then was safe at second on what should have been a double play hit into by Jason Kipnis. Adam Dunn fielded the ball, then threw it into left field, giving the Indians one more out and that was all they would need. Jason Giambi was then intentionally walked (Robin Ventura obviously heard about what happened last season) and Yan Gomes came through with a two strike, opposite field single to bring home Brantley from second with the game tying run.
Feathers Down
In an odd situation, Jason Kipnis was given a second chance after flying out to center in the sixth inning. With two outs and runners at first and third, Noesi quick pitched and a balk was called, but Kipnis didn’t notice and swung at the pitch anyway. Once things were sorted out, Kipnis got another swing, but grounded out to first, this time stranding runners at second and third.
It was still a tie game when Cody Allen came in for relief, but he put out one of his worst appearances of the season and gave up the go ahead run on a sacrifice fly. Allen got the first out of the inning, but then allowed three straight runners to reach (two on walks) to load the bases. Adam Dunn then came through for the Sox with a sacrifice fly to medium left to score Gordon Beckham, who was the first batter to walk in the inning.
As has often been the case this year, the Indians defense hurt them again tonight, but this time it was Mike Aviles with the error that cost them. To begin the ninth, Aviles threw a ball that bounced in the dirt and new first baseman Lonnie Chisenhall was unable to handle it. Leury Garcia, who replaced Tyler Flowers who was safe on the error, then stole second on a terrible throw by Yan Gomes. Garcia came home to score on a one out single to right by Moises Sierra.

On Deck: The Tribe has an off day so get outside and go down to the wonderful Geneva on the Lake. Play some putt putt, then get back in time to watch the Indians take on Colorado Rockies at 7:05 PM Tuesday night.
