GAME NOTES: Today’s game notes are courtesy of our recent trivia winner Chops.
Happy Birthday Manny! The forever young Ramirez gets a shot at 500 HR’s in Oriole Park at Camden Yards. Of all the AL East stadiums, Camden Yards is Manny’s least productive venue, with 1 only HR per 21 at-bats over his career; the others fall between 11 and 14 at bats per HR. I’m secretly hoping he’ll save the magic for Sunday afternoon, when I’ll be in the park.
Today’s game could be a pitcher’s survival contest. One team’s ace is 5-1, 3.70 and the other is 5-4, 4.43. Who’s who? The first is Daniel Cabrera; the second is Josh Beckett. Some stats further down the line paint a better pitcher: Beckett’s WHIP is lower, and his K/BB is 65/11, as compared to Cabrera’s 42/30. The Sox should come out with a very patient look early on,
The pair pitched in the last Sox-O’s series at Camden Yards, Beckett giving up 11 hits and 5 runs on May 13th, and Cabrera giving up 10 hits and 3 runs on May 14th. Thus, rather than a pitcher’s duel, watch for which pitcher can survive longer without getting touched up by long balls and big innings.

Will this be the night Manny hits 500? Call an inning, number of outs, number of runners on in the comments and we’ll keep this a recurring game until Manny hits the milestone.
