No respect I tells ya, no respect!
Stability, mostly, in the Division-I poll. The big result of the week, Washington’s road loss to Oregon, drops the Huskies from #2 to #5, and for the first time since their head-to-head match went to the Trojans, UCLA ranks higher than USC. The Bruins move up to #6, leaving the women of Troy at #7. The five Pac-12 schools of particular note are all still in the top seven. Stanford is now #2, with Oregon hot on their heels.
I had suggested that Texas could at last move past either/or USC or UCLA, but the voters didn’t feel that way. They did move past Hawaii, to get up to #8 and move the Rainbow Wahine down to #9, but it’s still nearly a hundred points from Hook’em Horns to USC at #8. Texas deserved better after the remarkable week they had.
Numbers 10 through 18 remain precisely the same. Western Kentucky leapfrogs Ohio State, probably due to Ohio State’s loss to Purdue. Michigan State has dropped from the rankings, and the new team with a number next to their name is the Miami Hurricanes from the ACC, checking in at #24. Battle-worn Illinois clings to the poll at #25.

The new number one team in Division II is indeed Southwest Minnesota State. Concordia-St. Paul, who moved from #6 to #4, got three first-place votes this time around. Washburn also got one (figured they might have gotten more) and a bit puzzlingly BYU-Hawaii also got one. Even puzzlinglyer, Nebraska-Kearney still got one.
West Texas A&M dropped out of the top ten, but they fell only to #11. My Western Washington Vikings actually slipped a rank to #15 despite winning their only match of the week. Central Washington, against competition nearly as weak, moved up one to #21. Ohhh, it’ll be fun taking out the trash this Thursday 😀
Two new teams join the poll. Truman State checks in at #20 after a very strong week last week, and UC San Diego joins their crosstown big sisters as a nationally ranked team, occupying the #25 spot. Ferris State and Northwood drop out of the rankings, but both still receive votes.
