Brian Elliott’s Mask Honors the
Ninja Turtles
Brian Elliott may have just taken the lead in the “Battle of the Backups” competition against Ben Bishop. The St. Louis Blues Facebook page put up the above image of Elliott’s mask, which features Casey Jones from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series. It really doesn’t get much better than that.
Elliott’s whimsical tribute may be a bit random, but it certainly speaks to our inner child.
Unfamiliar with Casey Jones? A friend to the Ninja Turtles, Jones is a human vigilante character that sports a hockey mask and carries a golf bag full of his weapons, which include everything from hockey sticks to baseball bats and golf clubs. He is described as being “Wayne Gretzky on steroids”.
Jones first appeared in the Ninja Turtle universe back in 1985 and has since appeared in everything from comic books to cartoons and feature films to action figures. He’s a master of stealth and an expert at armed and unarmed combat. On a personal note, he was also my favorite character in the old cartoon series – must have been the use of all the hockey equipment.
