I'm gonna take a little time off — as in a day or two — but along with catching up on World League and World Grand Prix preview pieces, I will also start a conference-by-conference series of previews for the upcoming women's season.
(oh lord what am I getting myself into)
Now, doing just one a week would make them stretch out over half a year. So I'll do two a week. If my ability to count to 16 is not failing me, that would have the series end in the last week of August. The last week of August is usually when the season starts, so that'll work.
Since it's about conferences rather than individual teams, my rundown will be based on the number of tournament bids each league received last year. One-bid leagues are ranked by their team's overall seed, while other ties are broken by furthest finisher. The new American Athletic Conference is placed 17th in the 32-league rundown. So that results in a rundown that goes a little something like this:
America East Conference
Southwestern Athletic Conference
Patriot League
Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference
Big Sky Conference
Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference
Northeast Conference
Big South Conference
Colonial Athletic Association
Ohio Valley Conference
Horizon League
Western Athletic Conference
Southland Conference
Conference USA
The Summit League
Atlantic Sun Conference
American Athletic Conference
Ivy League
Southern Conference
Mid-American Conference
Sun Belt Conference
Atlantic 10 Conference
Big West Conference
Mountain West Conference
Big East Conference
Missouri Valley Conference
Atlantic Coast Conference
Southeastern Conference
Big 12 Conference
West Coast Conference
Big Ten Conference
Pac-12 Conference
So let's see how it goes!
