Player of the Game
Danny Salazar takes tonight’s player of the game through a combination of two reasons. First, he pitched very well tonight, and second, and most upsettingly, there was no one else who contributed a single positive thing to tonight’s game.
Feathers Up
Danny Salazar more than held his own in tonight’s pitching duel. He pitched tremendously through 7 innings he gave up 7 hits and struck out 7. His only slip up was the 3-run home run he gave up to Cabrera in the 6th, aside from that he was great tonight.
Feathers Down
The game was going swimmingly until the bottom of the 6th when Salazar allowed back-to-back singles to Anthony Goes and Raji Davis. He managed to strike out Ian Kindler but then served up a softball to Miguel Cabrera that was promptly deposited into Lake Superior. Quite honestly, the Indians need to stop pitching to Miguel Cabrera with runners in scoring position. No one kills us more than Miggy and the Indians need to begin considering walking him as often as possible. I would even consider doing so with the bases loaded.
The Indians’ bats were completely dominated by David Price…. again. Through 9 innings Price scattered 7 hits and struck out 8. The Indians only had 4 at bats with a runner in scoring position and not once did they come close to scoring during that time.
WARNING: RANT ALERT BELOW
Before this game started I could have guessed what was going to happen, because it’s the exact same thing that has happened when the Indians face the Tigers since 2013. My pre-game guess was that the hitters will struggle and Miguel Cabrera has a big day. It is getting really old to watch one team completely dominate the Tribe every single time they face off. The Tigers aren’t even that good right now, but that doesn’t matter. As long as it’s the Tigers, the Indians play like complete garbage.
Final Score: Cleveland Indians 0 – Detroit Tigers 4
On Deck: Tomorrow the Indians will see a familiar face in Justin Verlander as he makes his season debut, the Indians will counter will Carlos Carrasco. The Indians have had success against Verlander in his career, hopefully things continue tomorrow.
