Player of the Game

Francisco Lindor had a good game yesterday after having most of the game off the day before and Jason Kipnis did the same tonight after taking off the finale against LA. Today, he walked in his first at bat, hit a double in his second and smashed a home run to right center in the 8th that brought the game to within one.

Feathers Up

After Carrasco allowed only two runs in six innings, Jeff Manship and Joba Chamberlain each pitched single scoreless innings with Manship striking out one and Chamberlain giving up the only hit between them, a single. This is a positive showing after both had difficult outings in their last appearances which were both more than four days ago.

Feathers Down

Carrasco continues to be surprisingly hittable since his return from the DL. His ability to limit the damage early on though was impressive. In the first, a run scored after Chisenhall blew a route and gave up a triple and Alcides Escobar followed with a single. This could have lead to more runs, but Yan Gomes threw out Escobar stealing before Carrasco walked Eric Hosmer and gave up another hit to Salvador Perez. Carrasco sandwiched a K in between and escaped the inning without further damage. He had a similar issue in the second when he allowed two hits to start the inning, but Carrasco struck out Jarrod Dyson, then got two fly outs to end the inning.

There have been periods of time this season when Yan Gomes has looked to be turning things around, but now is not one of those times. An 0 for 3 tonight pushed his average to .169, his lowest mark since May 14th and today specifically his two double plays really killed any chance the Indians had at scoring late in the game. After a short tepid streak from May 13th through May 28th when he hit .250/.295/.575, he has hit .118/.143/.265 since May 29th.

Final Score: Cleveland Indians 1 – Kansas City Royals 2

On Deck: Josh Tomlin and Chris Young will match-up Tuesday night again at 8:15 PM in Kansas City.
