Player of the Game
On a night where the game was over before it really got started and Ryan Raburn & David Murphy pitched, Giovanny Urshela wins the Player of the Game due to his tremendous defense. Urshela also went 1-3 tonight, sadly one of the better offensive performances for the Tribe.
Feathers Up
Giovanny Urshela made a number of solid defensive plays including a tremendous charging barehanded grab to get the runner out at first. In just his first week with the team he has already shown that he has a great glove and can provide defensive stability to the hot corner that the Indians have been lacking.
Francisco Lindor also gave fans a taste of what he can do with the glove with a couple of nice plays as well. He combined with Urshela to turn a 5-6-3 double play, not something you see everyday.
Feathers Down
Shaun Marcum was awful today, allowing 6 runs, including 2 home runs, in just 2 innings of work. Carlos Santana misplayed a grounder down the line that could have been a double-play, but ended up being an RBI triple. That lead to home runs by Addison Russel and Anthony Rizzo to put the Cubs up 6-0 early. Marcum has shown he can be valuable as a 5th starter, but he’s also shown that he provides little more than batting practice for the opposing team if he’s not able to hit his spots. Nick Hagadone came on in the 3rd to relieve Marcum and couldn’t record an out, Ryan Webb would follow Hagadone and promptly surrendered and 3-run home run. Thanks to their efforts the game was over by the top of the 3rd inning.
Final Score: Cleveland Indians 0 – Chicago Cubs 17
On Deck: The Indians wrap up their series with the Cubs tomorrow night at 7:10 p.m. ET. On the hill for the Tribe is Danny Salazar who will square off against the Cubs’ Jason Hammel.
