Player of the Game
Corey Kluber once again has a solid start. He pitched 6 innings in his outing today, only being stopped by a 3 hour rain delay. In those 6 shutout innings, Kluber allowed just 2 singles and struck out 6.
Feathers Up
It wasn’t quite the immaculate inning as he threw five balls, but Corey Kluber struck out the side in the fourth as part of six overall. Danny Salazar came into the day second in the AL in strike outs behind only David Price and with 79 now on the season, Kluber falls into third right behind him and ahead of Chris Sale.
It was surprising when the Indians hit three home runs yesterday, but despite the precedent and playing against Chris Young, it was still surprising when they repeated the feat plus one today. All four were solo shots and Mike Napoli hit the first, his team best 14th of the season and 42nd RBI, in the 4th inning. Tyler Naquin and Carlos Santana then both went deep in the fifth, both of which went deep out to right, Naquin’s into the mezzanine. After an out, Francisco Lindor hit one out to right as well, meaning all three hitters who went deep yesterday (Naquin, Lindor and Napoli) did so again today. In addition, Naquin now has home runs in three consecutive games, his first three career home runs.
Zach McAllister and Austin Adams locked in the Tribe shutout in the last 3 innings. After the rain delay, McAllister and Adams combined to strike out 5, allowing just one hit.
Feathers Down
The rain limited the depth for Corey Kluber. With his dominating outing and hefty run support, Kulber could have easily pitched into the 8th inning, if not longer.
Final Score: Cleveland Indians 7 – Kansas City Royals 0
On Deck: The Indians will head to the West Coast for the first time this season for four against the Mariners, starting with a 10:10 PM game on Monday night. James Paxton will go for Seattle against Trevor Bauer for the Tribe. The Indians will have a little extra back-up in the bullpen as Joba Chamberlain is expected to be activated from the DL prior to the game.
