Alex Steen Injury Update
We finally have an update on Alex Steen and this time it’s a positive one. Last time we checked in Steen was preparing to meet with a specialist in California in an effort to speed up his recovery from a concussion he suffered back on December 26th. Today, Jeremy Rutherford reports that Steen will rejoin the Blues on Tuesday when the club is in Anaheim. Rutherford states that coach Ken Hitchcock hasn’t put out any plans on Steen’s return but mentions that Steen is feeling great.
Potentially, this is a huge turn of events. Prior to his trip out to California, Steen was skating but suffered vision problems upon leaving the ice. He set out to California to receive treatment in a hyberbaric chamber – the same treatment that Andy McDonald and Paul Kariya used.
Currently the information on Steen is limited. We likely won’t have any further information until Steen actually meets with the team on Tuesday. Still, the fact that Steen feels better (or “great” as reported) is a huge step in the right direction. It remains to be seen how Steen’s body responds to skating and if he will be able to join the team as a full participant in the club’s practice.
It would be great to have Steen’s speed and relentless attitude in the roster come playoff time, especially if any other injuries pop up in the St. Louis roster.
