Pedro Martinez Looks to be Done

Pedro Martinez Looks to be Done

As one former big name pitcher is contemplating a return…another is actually saying that he might be calling it quits.

Sure, it was just a couple of weeks ago that Pedro Martinez said that he was “in shape” and ready to go, but now…word on the street is that the three-time Cy Young Award winner is ready to hang it up.

Oh, and by “the street”…I mean The Associated Press.

Pedro Martinez has virtually ruled out a return to the major leagues and says he is on his way to retirement.  The three-time Cy Young Award winner gave an interview that was broadcast Sunday in the Dominican Republic.

“I keep active because I have not announced my retirement, because that is something that takes time and you have to plan it. Plus, it is something that the Dominican people expected,” Martinez said.

In 18 big league seasons, the 38-year-old righty was 219-100 with a 2.93 ERA and 3154 strikeouts with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Montreal Expos, Boston Red Sox, New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies.

Martinez last threw a pitch in the 2009 World Series and barring any stupid revelations (fingers crossed)…dude should be a shoe-in for the Hall of Fame Class of 2015.
