6/8 Game Recap: Indians 6 – Cardinals 2

Player of the Game

Johnny Damon was tonight’s Player of the Game after he hit a 2-run home run in the 7th inning. Damon’s score of 4.16 awarded him his 2nd PoG of the season. Also contributing tonight were Josh Tomlin with a score of 3.78, Carlos Santana, scoring 2.45, Michael Brantley with a 2.42, and Jason Kipnis with a score of 2.37.

Feathers Up

The offense scored 6 runs tonight, which was more than enough to get them the win with Josh Tomlin on the mound. Their runs were scored on 11 hits and 3 St. Louis errors. Players with multiple hits tonight include Asdrubal Cabrera, Jason Kipnis, and Michael Brantley, who extended his hit streak to 16 games. As predicted in the Series Preview, Josh Tomlin contributed with a single.

Josh Tomlin pitched well tonight. He did give up 8 hits, but he limited the Cardinals to just 2 runs in his 7 innings pitched.

The Indians took advantage of the sloppy St. Louis defense. 3 Indians batters reached on errors, Lonnie Chisenhall once and Shin-Soo Choo twice. These errors amounted to 1 unearned run.

Feathers Down

The Indians struck out 8 times tonight, which is forgivable since 2 of the strikeouts were by the pitcher, Josh Tomiln. You have to love Interleague Play.

Play of the Game

Johnny Damon hits a home run, eliminating all hope of Indians relievers getting holds or saves tonight.
