T.J. Oshie’s Nifty Shootout Goal

It’s not often you see Jonathan Quick off balance, flailing at the puck. This is exactly what happened when T.J. Oshie took his shootout attempt in the team’s 1-0 shootout loss against the Los Angeles Kings. At times the Blues have looked dreadful in the shootout but typically Oshie provides a welcome dose of finesse, quick hands and pure skill.

On the year T.J. Oshie has converted the most shootout attempts by scoring on five of his 12 attempts (41.7%). He doesn’t own the best conversion percentage (Andy McDonald 2 of 3, 66.7%) but he has basically been the only skater that has shown any sort of confidence in the shootout.

Prior to Andy McDonald returning Oshie was typically the only hope for the Blues in terms of scoring in the shootout. Excluding McDonald and Oshie the Blues are a combined 2-for-24 on their attempts. The coaching staff has used different faces in the shootout but they haven’t found any reliable success outside of Oshie. As a matter a fact, one of the goals in the 2-for-24 statistic came from a St. Louis defenseman – Kevin Shattenkirk.
