Roman Polak – Czech Olympian

polak_thumbWhile most of the hockey world is discussing and debating the Canadian roster which was just announced today, we would like to point out the Czech Republic team and congratulate Roman Polak for making the roster. Polak, who is just a 23-year-old mind you, will help anchor the Czech blueline alongside other NHL stars such as Tomas Kaberle and Pavel Kubina.

Being named to an Olympic team is a huge honor for any hockey player, but for this honor to come at such a young age for Polak is even more impressive. During his time with the Blues, Polak has constantly played well above his age with hard work, determination and no fear to throw his body around. He may not put up the offensive numbers as say a player like Erik Johnson does, but from a strictly defensive measuring stick Polak is very reliable and will be fun to watch in the Olympics.

His other teammates on the Czech roster is filled with other names that most will recognize, in particular an old favorite of mine Jaromir Jagr. Jagr has spent his time playing in the KHL since 2008, but still lingers in fans’ minds for his incredible career at the NHL level. Joining Polak and Jagr will also be former Blue Petr Cajanek, who currently skates for SKA Petrohand.

Other names worth mentioning include Patrik Elias, Martin Erat, Tomas Plekanec, Tomas Vokoun and Martin Havlat.
