Roster Update: As announced earlier in the week, the Indians brought top pitching prosepect, Danny Salazar up to make his Major League debut today. Preston Guilmet was sent back to AAA to make room on the 25 man roster.
Player of the Game
First time starter Danny Salazar struck out seven over six innings, earning the win (and 6.88 POG points) in the process. He is the third straight starting pitcher to win the Player of the Game.
Feathers Up
Danny Salazar could not have been better in his Major League debut today as he threw six full innings and didn't allow a single hit or run until his final inning. The element of surprise was on his side as the Blue Jays hitters had never seen him before, and that lead to a massive amount of strike outs, including three in the second. Salazar struck out at least one hitter in every inning except the sixth and seven batters overall. Salazar was throwing his fastball near 100 MPH and did a great job keeping the Blue Jays hitters off balance.
Cody Allen continued his strike out streak as he struck out the side in the eighth inning. He has moved into the secondary set-up role following the temporary demotion of Vinnie Pestano and has been perfect so far, not allowing a single run in his last four outings.
Carlos Santana finally came through for the Tribe in his fourth at bat, after going 0-3 previously and stranding three runners in scoring position. Santana hit a triple in the bottom of the eighth which scored pinch runner Drew Stubbs from first to give the Indians a three run lead.
Feathers Down
Despite his fantastic start, Salazar almost didn't get the win in his debut. It took a lucky error in the sixth inning on a Lonnie Chisenhall single to finally get the go ahead run in just after Salazar pitched his last inning. Chris Perez then almost blew the save in the ninth when he allowed the tying run to reach first base. Things eventually worked out well, however and Perez earned his 11th save while Salazar took home his first win.
Final Score: Cleveland Indians 4 – Toronto Blue Jays 2
