7/13 Recap: Royals 3 – Indians 5

Player of the Game

Lonnie Chisenhall was involved in almost all the Indians' scoring and them some tonight, with his grand slam scoring all but one of the Tribe's runs in the game. He also doubled later in the game. Chisenhall finished with a POG score of 7.38, making this his best game of the year. He just nudged out tonight's starter, Scott Kazmir, who threw 6.1 innings, striking out six and giving up just two earned runs (both of which were allowed by reliever Matt Albers).

Feathers Up

Lonnie Chisenhall did something today that the 40th greatest home run hitter of all time couldn't. With the bases loaded and one out in the sixth inning Jason Giambi came up to the plate, looking to increase the Indians lead. He wasn't up to the task as Jeremy Guthrie struck him out, but Chisenhall was able to take Guthrie deep on the very next pitch for a grand slam that gave the Tribe a 5-0 lead.

Scott Kazmir continued his recent hot streak by throwing a shut out through 6.1 innings. In his last five starts he has allowed just 6 earned runs in 31 innings (or a 1.74 ERA). He has struck out 25 batters over that span while lowing his season ERA by a full run.

Feathers Down

Matt Albers made Kazmir's start look uglier than it was by giving up two singles after coming in for Kazmir in the seventh inning. The hits gave up both of Albers' inherited runners as well as one of his own. The rest of the bullpen was actually pretty good afterward, however as Rich Hill was able to strike out his only batter faced while Vinnie Pestano and Chris Perez each tossed scoreless innings.

Final Score: Cleveland Indians 5 – Kansas City Royals 3
