Roster Update: Zach McAllister officially came off the disabled list prior to tonight's start. To make room, rookie reliever, C.C. Lee was sent back to AAA.
Player of the Game
Yan Gomes was responsible for giving the Indians the lead in the second inning with a two run home run that landed in the upper deck above Edgar's in left field. This was the back up catcher's third Player of the Game of the season and his first since June 4th.
Feathers Up
Zach McAllister was able to settle down after a rough start and didn't allow a run during his final two innings. He threw a perfect fourth inning and was able to get out of a jam in the fifth by striking out Michael Saunders with a runner on third and just one out. He struck out Mike Zunino as well to end the inning.
Mark Reynolds hit a single tonight (just his second hit in his last seven games).
Feathers Down
While he is normally one of the best defensemen on the team, Jason Kipnis has been slumping with his glove as of late and cost the Indians another unearned run early in tonight's game. The play was his second error (just his ninth of the year) on the road trip and he made another poor play against Minnesota as well that ended up costing the Indians a win on a botched double play. Kipnis changed out his glove after the play, but it didn't appear to help as he dropped a ball in the fifth inning as well, but recovered in time to get the out.
Lonnie Chisenhall has also had some troubles with the glove of late, giving up unearned runs in each of the losses to the Twins and committing another two errors tonight. The big difference is that Chisenhall's glove has been a known detriment to his game since he was drafted.
Zach McAllister was rusty, to say the least, coming back from two months on the DL tonight. Errors hurt him early on, but lead to just a single unearned run before the third inning. In the third, the Indians starter allowed three doubles, two singles and a wild pitch, allowing three runs to score and eliminating the Indians two run lead.
The Indians scored early, but weren't able to add anything after the second inning as the offense was kept in check for the fourth time in the past five games. The Tribe threatened in the ninth, but a terrible base running error by pinch-runner Drew Stubbs turned what should have been a first and third situation with one out into just a runner at first with two outs.
