No, the first-team unit didn’t look great against Detroit last week, but it’s important to note that wasn’t in fact the first-team unit, not with DE Dwight Freeney, DT Antonio Johnson and S Antoine Bethea playing sparingly and S Bob Sanders, DT Ed Johnson, DE Robert Mathis, CB Kelvin Hayden and LB Gary Brackett not playing at all. The Colts’ defense may need some time early in the season to get acclimated to one another, but if and when they’re healthy, they should be improved.
