7/14 Game Preview: Sox Start Second Half Against Tampa Bay

The Red Sox, winners of six straight going in to the All-Star Break, head to Tampa today to start a 3 game series with the Rays. Adrian Gonzalez scored the only run for the American League furing Tuesday’s All Star Game, further cementing his position as a contender for the AL MVP title. Gonzalez also leads the Red Sox in all major offensive categories except for Home Runs, which is led by David Ortiz. The rest of the Red Sox performed less than admirably during the Midsummer Classic, but the All-Star Game isn’t known to be a game where players go all out.

Pitching Matchup: Andrew Miller (3-0, 3.57 ERA) vs. TBA

The Rays haven’t announced who their starter will be, and because of the way a lot of teams mix up their lineup after the All-Star break (giving key starters extra days of rest, moving peoples positions up and down, etc.) there’s no real waya to know who they’re going to put up on the mound.

On the Red Sox side, however, Andrew Miller gets another start and I firmly believe he is finally starting to find his place in the rotation. He only went 5 innings in his last outing, and took 97 pitches to get there, but also only gave up only 3 runs. He’s also only given up only 3 extra base hits and only 2 home runs so far in the season, while failing to record a single loss. Miller is by no means an ace, but he’s a strong member of the Red Sox staff and will have a very good chance to record his 4th straight against a struggling Rays team.
