New York Yankees (57-45) @ Boston Red Sox (60-44) |
GAME NOTES: Once a comfortable separation between the Rays + Red Sox and the Yankees in the AL East, the Bombers have made their usual second half run to close to just two games behind the Red Sox for second and three behind the Rays for first in the division. To put a stop to their run and seven-game winning streak is knuckleballer Tim Wakefield, hopefully channeling some of his 2003 ALCS magic against the Yankees (if you remember anything before the Boone HR). Opposing Wake is a player that strangely resembles a horse that takes steroids, Andy Pettitte, who has been outstanding lately save one rough start….against the Red Sox! With Ponson-Lester the matchup Sunday night, the Red Sox can definitely still take two of three. Last night’s loss was deflating- losing on a dink grounder and an egregious strike three call is hard to get over so quickly- but that’s why baseball is the best sport of them all: you can come back and exact revenge the very next day. Win.
