7/29 Game Recap: Indians 1 – Twins 5

Player of the Game

Congratulations to Shelley Duncan, who was the main contibuting factor to the Tribe’s only run. Duncan hit 2 singles today and had an RBI, which was more than enough to win him Player of the Game. His score of 1.72 was a whole point higher than the next best player. Duncan now has 7 awards this season.

Feathers Up

The Minnesota Twins traded Fancisco Liriano to the White Sox yesterday, meaning he did not start today’s game.

Ubaldo Jimenez did not pitch a great game, but it was definitely winnable. Jimenez pitched 6.1 innings, giving up 3 runs on 6 hits and struck out 6. His biggest mistake was a 3-run home run to Justin Morneau. The 3rd Minnesota run scored on a wild pitch. Tony Sipp did enter the game in the 6th with 2 runners on, both of which scored, but you cannot completely blame Jimenez for those runs.

The Twins didn’t score more than 10 runs today, that’s an improvement.

Feathers Down

Two Indians pitchers are tied for the league lead in a stat, and it is not a good one. Justin Masterson and Ubaldo Jimenez are now tied for most wild pitches thrown with 11. Ubaldo’s wild pitch today (which followed a balk), led to a Minnesota run that would not have scored otherwise.

Minnesota base runners stole 5 bases off the Indians today. Lou Marson had good throws each time, meaning that the pitchers did not do their part of keeping the runners close.

After a good series with Detroit, the Indians were swept by the last place Twins. This is exactly the opposite of what they need to do to have any hopes of finishing at the top of the division.

The Indians need to do something before the trade deadline. They certainly are not producing with the team they have.

Play of the Game

Shelley Duncan hits an RBI single to score the only Tribe run.
