Blues Land Halak
St. Louis Blues fans: We have our goaltender. It has been confirmed that the Blues have traded for Montreal’s Jaroslav Halak. In return, the Blues are shipping Lars Eller and Ian Schultz to the Canadiens.
More details to come as they are released …
The Blues have made a significant trade, acquiring Jaroslav Halak in exchange for prospect Lars Eller and Ian Schultz. Halak, the man you may remember through Montreal’s crazy ride through the playoffs and through the Olympics comes to the Blues and will feature as the starting goaltender.
The future of Chris Mason hasn’t officially been determined, but one must assume he will be looking for a new home. Mason will begin the hunt for a new club, and is applauded for his hard work here in St. Louis.
UPDATE: John Davidson has confirmed that Chris Mason will not be returning to the Blues.
It is slightly sad to see Eller go after following all the hype surrounding him the past few years, and he definitely can still be a big impact player – when healthy. Speaking of health, the injury (and mono) bug has surrounded the youngster throughout his early career, decreasing his value. Still, injury history aside, Eller can be dynamic when functioning at 100%.
Rumors abounded that this deal included David Perron due to his roots in Montreal, but that notion was squashed in a hurry – and thankfully so.
No contract talk has come up with Halak at this time. Keep in mind the Blues must now sign him as they have just traded for the rights to him.
The Blues purposely waited until our one year anniversary to release the news … OK, maybe not but the news is still extremely exciting.
