ACHIEVEMENTS: Career batting average of .295. 2340 hits, 1329 runs scored, 198 home runs, 960 RBI and 379 stolen bases. 1995 National League MVP. 1990 World Series champion. Three-time Gold Glove winner (1994-1996). 12-time All-Star selection (1988-1991, 1993-1997, 1999, 2000 and 2004). In 1996, Larkin became the first shortstop to join the 30-30 club with 33 home runs and 36 stolen bases. Hit .300 or better nine times.

HOVG THOUGHTS: With all the hubbub that surrounded Cal Ripken and how he re-defined the position of shortstop over in the American League…Larkin was his equivalent in the National League. To an extent. Dude brought some swagger back to what was a dead Big Red Machine…if only for a few years.
