The 76ers are making some news today. First, the signing of shooting guard Nick Young to a super cheap contract:
Multiple reports including Yahoo and ESPN confirm through Nick Young’s agent that he has agreed to an offer sheet with the Philadelphia 76ers on a one-year deal worth $6 million.
Wait.
It wasn’t a four-year, $30 million deal? No massive contract size? No excessive length on the contract? A reasonable contract for a bench scorer who can help himself into a better contract with a good year in a featured role and no long-term committment?
Is this still the NBA?
27-year old shooting guards with “potential” generally don’t settle for one year deals. Not sure what Young and his agent are thinking.
The Sixers are parting ways with Elton Brand. His $18 million salary will be amnestied. Teams under the cap get first crack at Brand. The highest bidder wins out. The Mavericks are one of the teams reportedly interested.
I don’t see Brand fitting with Boston.
