Roster Update: Although he was not on the 25 man roster, the $7 million that he was paid to allow ten home runs in four games makes this noteworthy. The Indians released Brett Myers today, allowing him to test the free agent waters to see if any GMs around baseball have a drinking problem.
Player of the Game
Lonnie Chisenhall entered the game in the 8th inning, pinch hitting for Ubaldo Jimenez. He lined home run over the right field fence, giving the Indians their only run of the game and giving Chisenhall Player of the Game honors.
Feathers Up
Scoreboard Watch: The Tigers got things over with early today, finally beating the Athletics 7-6 after losing the first three games of the series. The walk-off win was not all good news for Detroit, who lost Miguel Cabrera again during the game. He left after being thrown out trying to leg out a double, then was pulled from the game. This could be huge news for the Indians who go to Detroit next. The Rays also lost early as both Wild Card leaders had bad days.
If there is one positive to take out of a lost series, it is that the Indians just played three games against the best team in all of baseball and were in every single game. This was mostly thanks to good starting pitching and great relief work, showing that the Indians pitching staff can hang with the best in the Majors. Obviously, the offense has some more ground to cover, but they were only a few timely hits from turning the series completely around.
Ubaldo Jimenez had a solid outing. He did give up 3 runs on 7 hits, but he gave the Indians 7 strong innings and struck out 10 Atlanta batters.
Feathers Down
Run production hurt the Tribe once again. The Indians did not score until the 8th inning, and that run was the only Cleveland one on the scoreboard.
Swisher, what are you doing? Nick Swisher stuck out in 3 of his 4 plate appearances, accounting for nearly half of the Indians strikeouts for the night.
