Unimportant Roster Moves: In "who's that" news, the Indians traded Spring Training invitee and recent Columbus Clipper, Fernando Nieve to the Oakland Athletics for cash. This is actually a good move as the Indians were never going to use him again, so this way the Indians get something they need (money) and Nieve gets what he wants (to play for a Major League team). Joe Martinez has cleared waivers and remains in AAA.
Player of the Game
Jason Kipnis came through twice when the Indians needed him to, knocking in the first Indians run in the first and giving them the lead again in the seventh. In the end, he reached base in four of five at bats, hitting three singles and knocking in three. His 12th Player of the Game of the year helps him regain the top spot as an Indian in 2013.
Feathers Up
Michael Bourn put on a show of speed tonight, scoring the Indians first two Indians runs almost single handidly. In the first inning, Bourn lead off the game with a single, stole second and scored on a Jason Kipnis single. His next time up, Bourn lead the third off with an infield single, stole second and scored after a wild pitch and an over throw. This was especially impressive as the ball barely got away from the catcher, but he forced a throw that ended up into left field.
Not to be outdone, Drew Stubbs came into the game in a double switch and made his speed make a difference in the seventh inning. After reaching base with a single, he stole second base off a pick off move, then took third as part of a double steal with Bourn behind him. Both Bourn and Stubbs then scored the go ahead runs on another Kipnis single.
Feathers Down
Zach McAllister was almost perfect tonight until he wasn't. He brought a no hitter into the sixth inning, but immediately gave up three hits and was pulled from the game. In general, McAllister was dominant, striking out seven during his time in the game, but still left the game with things tied.
