Roster Update: In a surprising, yet not completely out of nowhere move, the Indians have released struggling DH, Mark Reynolds. After a strong start, Reynolds average had dropped in each of the next three months of the season, hitting a monthly low of .098 in July. After this he was removed from the starting lineup and went 3/9 as a part time early in August. Reynolds was already replaced in the starting lineup by a combination of Jason Giambi and Ryan Raburn and has now been replaced on the 25 man roster by relief pitcher Preston Guilmet. This is Guilmet's second stint with the team and was likely brough up to provide some relief depth after the 14 inning affair last night.
Player of the Game
Asdrubal Cabrera was responsible for the first two Indians runs as he hit two RBI doubles, scoring Michael Bourn in the fourth and Jason Kipnis in the sixth. With little else happening, he easily took the Player of the Game with a score of just 3.61.
Feathers Up
Both teams played incredibly good baseball through the first three games of this series, but the Indians just didn't have the stamina or pitching to keep things close in game four. There is nothing good about getting swept in a four game series at home against your number one rival.
In an act of total desperation, the Indians looked to Ryan Raburn to close out the ninth for them in an eight run game. Raburn shut the Tigers down in order, including a strike out of Matt Tuiasosopo on an 89 MPH fast ball. Raburn learned a curve ball earlier in the game while sitting next to Josh Tomlin on the bench and used it at least once to get a ground ball out to first.
Milestone Alert: Michael Brantley took advantage of a bad play in the ninth inning to reach safely for his 500th hit of his career. Brantley made it to second after the ball was overthrown, but would have been safe at first either way. He looks to have been in a hurry after he neared the milestone as he hit safely three times yesterday to make today's mark easily.
Feathers Down
The Indians have kept Miguel Cabrera slightly down during this series (5/14 with 6 RBI), Prince Fielder has stepped up to take his place. Fielder had two doubles in tonight's game after leading the Tigers to victory in the 14th inning last night. Overall, Fielder has went 5 for 17 with four RBI and four extra base hits. Of course, Cabrera was only kept down compared to his normal godlike self. His series was still better than any human could do.
Walking four batters in the same inning is rarely a recipe for success as Tribe starter Zach McAllister found out tonight. McAllister blew up the third inning tonight when, after walking Cabrera to score one run, he gave up the two RBI double to Fielder. It wasn't quite over for McAllister who gave up another hit and walk to bring the Tigers total to five before being removed after pitching just 2.1 innings.
