GAME NOTES: Yesterday’s nightcap – and early morning-cap – was the longest nine inning game in baseball history, and in my estimation has to be among the worst I’ve ever seen. The pitching was terrible, the hitting wasn;t good enough to make up for it (sure, we pounded out 11 runs, but against Ponson, Villone, and Scott Proctor Part Deux, it felt like we were being held down). The Sox have to take 2 of the next three now to salvage this series, and even then this will be a very ugly loss in the annals. Beckett has no choice but to go deep into this game: this one will be a major test for Ace 1B, with the bullpen decimated.
