Player of the Game
Justin Masterson won his 15th Player of the Game in his last start of the season. He lead all starting pitchers with 28 total points on the season, 4.60 of which came from tonight’s match-up.
Feathers Up
The Tribe and Chicago put together another great pitching match-up, this time with only a single run scored through the first five innings. If either of these teams had gotten starting pitching like they have the last two nights all season, they would probably be playing for the division title right now instead of playing for nothing.
Justin Masterson had his best game in over a month, allowing just a single run through 6 innings pitched. Masterson struck out four and allowed just four hits, but was unable to record a decision when he left with the game still tied prior to the 7th inning.
Some timely pinch-hitting by Sandy Alomar lead to a single by Michael Brantley (in for Brent Lillibridge) and a home run from Travis Hafner (in for Lou Marson), tying the game in the 9th inning and removing White Sox starter Jake Peavy.
Milestone Update: Travis Hafner’s game tying ninth inning home run was his 200th as a Cleveland Indian.
A Lonnie Chisenhall double in the 12th inning made the way for an Indians win. Jason Donald then followed, after a few hitters, with a game winning RBI single for an alternative ending to last night’s game.
There is just one more game left for the Indians in 2012.
Feathers Down
A Shin-Soo Choo home run was the only thing keeping Jake Peavy from a perfect game until he walked Jason Kipnis in the 7th. Asdrubal Cabrera then grounded into a double play to end that miniscule threat.
Play of the Game
Travis Hafner’s pinch hit two run home run tied the game in the bottom of the ninth inning.
