Player of the Game
Trevor Bauer pitched a very good game today, giving the Indians a great chance to win and take 3 of 4.
Feathers Up
Lonnie’s first foray into the lead-off position went well today, he reached base 3 times including a walk in the 1st which lead to a run scored, a single in the 3rd, and another walk in the 5th. As a long-time Lonnie supporter, it’s good to see him having success again. Hopefully he’ll continue to produce for the Indians in this new utility type role.
Trevor Bauer was good today, until the 5th when he walked 2 straight guys and gave up a single to Sam Fuld. But he came back out in the 6th and shut the A’s down 1-2-3. It looked like the wheels may fall off after the 5th, but props to Bauer for coming back out in the 6th with renewed focus. Overall he pitched 6.2 innings allowing 4 hits, walking 4 batters, but allowing just 1 earned run.
Feathers Down
Continually writing about how poorly the Indians are performing at the plate is just getting old. Sonny Gray didn’t have his best stuff today and the Indians had opportunities to score on him, but plated just one run through 7 innings. In other news, the sky is still blue.
Jason Kipnis sat out today’s game with a sore shoulder. It had been bothering him for a few months apparently and recently had gotten much worse. An MRI was conducted earlier today but no results have been announced. A stint on the disabled list may be in his future.
Final Score: Cleveland Indians 1 – Oakland Athletics 2
On Deck: Tomorrow night the Indians start a three game set with the Wild Card hopeful Angels. Corey Kluber takes the mound against the Angels’ Garrett Richards. Kluber will look to continue the Big Four’s recent dominance, last time out Kluber pitched a complete game, giving up 1 earned run in a 12-1 romp of the Royals.
