It’s Official – Blues Open January 19th vs. Detroit

The rumors have been confirmed. The St. Louis Blues will open the abbreviated 2013 season at home on January 19th against the Detroit Red Wings. The news was confirmed by Jeremy Rutherford of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Rutherford also mentioned that NHL clubs have received their schedules but noted they wouldn’t be released quite yet so teams can tell the league of any unavoidable conflicts and to allow time for the players to ratify the new CBA.

Mark your calendars. Hockey returns Saturday, January 19th. If previous rumors are to be believed, the 19th will be a day littered with hockey. There will be games throughout the day, creating a “Day of Hockey” to welcome back fans to the game.

It’s a bit early to analyze the team’s first game but it will be interesting to see how the Red Wings perform now that both Nicklas Lidstrom and Tomas Holmstrom have retired. I would make a comment about how the Blues will have a chance to welcome back Carlo Colaiacovo to the Scottrade Center, but as you might expect, he’ll probably be sidelined with an injury.
