8th Inning Guy Jokes Aren’t Funny Anymore

I’ve had some fun with this before. The joke was funny for awhile. Now it’s just kind of sad.

“We have an eighth-inning guy and stopper who are doing good jobs,” said Roenicke. “We talked with Saito and thought he’d be a sixth- and seventh-inning guy until he gets his feet on the ground, pitching a few times. Then we’ll see where we are.”

Yes, he just explained his use of Kameron Loe again by calling him the “8th inning guy” again. Roenicke said he didn’t go with Braddock because he had pitched 4 times in 6 games. Fine. I can live with that. If you want to “ease” Saito into things again by not using him in the 8th, that’s okay, too. All you have to do is let Saito pitch the 7th instead (with a two-run lead), and save LaTroy Hawkins for the 8th. Or anyone else, really. All it takes is a little planning ahead beyond “Kam’s got the 8th.”
