9/2 Recap: Orioles 7 – Indians 2

Player of the Game

Lonnie Chisenhall may finally be breaking out of his season long slump as he hit his second home run in his past four games. He also doubled today making him the Indians top performer on the day.

Feathers Up

The Indians found a little power today with both Jason Kipnis and Lonnie Chisenhall hitting solo home runs. If only the Indians had been able to get a few base runners on before them, they may have been able to make things a little closer than they ended up.

Feathers Down

As if the Indians needed any more challenges this season, ace Justin Masterson left the game after the first inning when he had issues with pain on his left side. Masterson ended up taking the loss as it was his base runner allowed in the second that scored the first run of the game.

While the Indians didn't need to win this game to win the series and stay on pace with the other teams in the Wild Card race, they certainly made it hard for themselves. In fact, they have lost the first game in nine of the last ten series, so this is nothing new. While they have won three of those series, it certainly isn't the easy way to go about it.

Masterson leaving early essentially cost the Indians the game as they needed to use seven pitchers, many of whom were not even on the team three days ago. Luckily for the Tribe, they will have at least five relievers available tomorrow that didn't pitch in today's game as the relief corps has been extended to extreme levels.

Scoreboard Watch: The Yankees and Athletics both won their games today, pushing the Indians behind both of the non leading Wild Card contenders. With the win, the A's have tied the Rangers for the AL West lead, so we may be following a new team soon in the scoreboard watch.

Final Score: Cleveland Indians 2 – Baltimore Orioles 7
