Blues Deal King to Washington
Recently the Blues signed Cam Janssen to a new deal, making it clear which direction the club was preparing to go. Today, DJ King was dealt to Washington in exchange for Stefan Della Rovere, ending the era of two major fighters in St. Louis.
Chalk this up as a deal I like. First off, yes, I am a Cam Janssen fan. He brings a ton of energy to the ice and is the definition of a guy that plays for the team first and for himself second. No disrespect to King, but Cam has avoided injuries which is a statement King simply can not say. One really has to wonder how valuable an injury-plagued fighter is at the NHL level.
The Blues did get a nice piece in return in Stefan Della Rovere. Della Rovere captained the Barrie Colts last season in OHL, a team that finished 57-9-0-2 in the league.
The Blues obtain a very solid prospect by dealing away a player in a category they had a surplus in. King’s immense talent in the fighting aspect of the game will be missed, but no one can fault Cam’s ability.
