9/10 Game Recap: Indians 2 – Twins 7

Player of the Game

In his first game back from the DL, Lonnie Chisenhall had a walk and a home run and won the Player of the Game. He was the only player who did anything worth mentioning at all and finished the game with a score of 3.18.

Feathers Up

Rehab Update: Both Carlos Carrasco and Hector Rondon pitched single scoreless innings in last night’s game for Akron. It will be interesting if the Indians bring them up after the MiLB playoffs are over or if they go straight back to extended training.

This wasn’t the worst game Justin Masterson ever pitched, but it certainly wasn’t anything special. It didn’t really seem like he was being hit very hard until the 7th, but it doesn’t matter how the other team scores when your team can’t.

Feathers Down

Asdrubal Cabrera was kept out of the game after reinjuring his right wrist in last night’s affair. It is his third game out with this injury in the Indians last ten.

The Indians were fighting bad luck tonight as each of the Twins first two runs were scored after a tough defensive play followed by a timely single. The first was a ball hit off Justin Masterson’s leg and the second scored when Ruzz Canzler took a bad hop off the wall into his chest, leading to a triple.

The Lake County Captains were eliminated from the playoffs today, despite help from a roster that ended up looking like a “best of” all the Indians lower levels. The Indians single A club lost in three games to the Fort Wayne Tin Caps (Padres). The good news is that the Indians still have one team left in the postseason, the Western Division champion Akron Aeros. They will go on to play the Trenton Thunder (Yankees) tomorrow for the Eastern League title.

The Indians loss today did three things, all equally bad. The loss was their 82nd of the year, guaranteeing a losing season. It also ties their total losses last year, making this season worse than 2011 with almost a month left. Finally, because it happened against the Twins, they lost a game in the standings and have moved into a tie for last place in the American League Central. The collapse must be just about complete. The Indians have went from first to last in just 71 games.

Play of the Game

Lonnie Chisenhall took an 11 pitch walk in his first inning. This was his first at bat back after missing three months with a broken arm and he showed great patience.

Final Score: Cleveland Indians 2 – Minnesota Twins 7
