PRIOR GAME AGAINST OPPONENT: Red Sox 11, Orioles 9 on 8/13/06 DECISION: W: Jon Lester | L: Daniel Cabrera | S: Jonathan Papelbon STAR OF THE GAME: Kevin Youkilis – 2-5, 2 R, 3 RBI, HR, 2B |
GAME NOTES: With the Sox just 2 games up on the Blue Jays in the AL East, it’s past time to think about the Wild Card: this team has a fight on its hands just to keep the AL East in its 9 season status quo. In only 1 season – 2004 – has the division not finished NYY/BOS/TOR/BAL/TB; if the Sox break it up by switching ranks, I’d prefer they do so by moving up rather than down. So instead of counting the infitessimally small chances that the Sox can overtake 3 teams for the AL Wild Card, let’s instead concentrate on holding on to a better record than our northern neighbours.
Kason Gabbard, fresh off his best start in a Red Sox uniform (hell, the best start anyone’s had for this team since like June), squares off against Daniel Cabrera.
