According to multiple sources, Mike Weaver has signed a two-year contract with the Florida Panthers worth $1.8 million.

Weaver is one skater the Blues will miss.

The St. Louis Blues struggled as a whole last season, but Weaver was usually a source of reliability from the blueline, shutting down the opposition on a regular basis.

Along with Alex Steen, Weaver was arguably the best overall player on the roster last season even though he contributed just 10 points offensively. Clearly, Weaver’s big impact was through hard work and playing solid defense.

The news of his departure comes as a surprise as Weaver impressed management with his play, and was not asking for a significant boost in salary. The blueliner made $800,000 last season and will now see $900,000 a year in Florida.
