9/5 Recap: Detroit Dominates Danny

Player of the Game

The only excitement of the night for the Indians came from a Michael Brantley double in the 6th. It was that kinda night.

Feathers Up

After Salazar handed the bullpen a dumpster fire and made them deal with it, the pen pitched 4.1 clean innings. Glass half full.

Feathers Down

After dominating the Blue Jays in his last outing, Danny Salazar struggled mightily tonight. He had trouble finding the strike zone in the early innings, leading to 3 runs, 2 by way of a home run by J.D. Martinez. Salazar’s propensity to give up the long ball continued in the 4th when Tyler Collins added a solo shot to left. Rajai Davis added a triple later in the inning bringing his night to an end after allowing 8 hits and 5 runs in just 3.2 innings.

Jason Kipnis‘ defense was highly questionable tonight. On two separate occasions he made bad throws that pulled the recipient off the bag. In one he pulled Jerry Sands off at first at Ian Kinsler ended up being safe. In the other he threw wide to second on an easy double play ball that did not allow Lindor to throw to first which was followed by a 2-out triple by Rajai Davis that scored 1.

Alfredo Simon has been pitching batting practice since the second half of the season began yet the Indians were held hitless until the 6th inning until Michael Brantley hit a double.

Final Score: Cleveland Indians 0   Detroit Tigers 6
