9/6 Recap: Cody Confounds Cats

-7

Player of the Game

Cody Anderson went 7  shutout innings today, giving up just two hits while striking out 3.

Feathers Up

Cody Anderson was solid for the second start in a row. Cody didn’t find himself in many jams today, and when he did he bailed himself out with a few groundball double plays. Cody is at his best when he pounds the ball low in the strike zone and induces groundballs, which there were plenty of today. Great start from the Bearded Wonder that couldn’t have come at a better time after the implosion Danny Salazar experienced yesterday.

Francisco Lindor continues to prove his big league worth as a hitter. In the top of the 6th with two runners on Frankie drove one into the right-center field gap for a triple to give the Indians the lead. This was a part of a big 5 hit, 3 run inning for the Tribe.

Michael Martinez got the start in left field today and had himself a game. Martinez collected 3 hits, drove in 1 and scored a run while playing solid defense. Overall a very good game for the September call up.

Feathers Down

For the second straight game the Tribe offense was hitless heading into the 5th inning. Granted Justin Verlander has been much better of late, but to struggle this badly against Verlander and Alfredo Simon is unsettling for a team trying to make an unlikely playoff push.

Final Score: Cleveland Indians 4  Detroit Tigers 0

Scoreboard Watch: TB 4 vs NYY 5 (Bot 8), MIN 2 vs HOU 0 (Top 7), TEX 0 vs LAA 0 (Bot 1).

On Deck: The Indians will begin a three game set against the Pale Hose tomorrow. Chris Sale is on the mound against Trevor Bauer and first pitch is at 2:10 p.m. This could conceivably be Bauer’s last start of the season if things don’t go well again, I have to believe the leash is pretty short for him right now.
