97-Year-Old Cubs Fan Heading to World Series

There are some real turds out there when it comes to GoFundMe campaigns. Conversely…there are plenty that hit you right in the feels.

This is one of them.

Jim Schlegel returned home from World War II just in time to see his Chicago Cubs compete in the 1945 World Series. Matter of fact, the 97-year-old was actually at Game Seven and still has the ticket stubs!

Hoping to get him to the World Series this year, Schlegel’s granddaughter Helen set up a GoFundMe page and the goal was easy…secure enough in donations (she was asking for $10,000) to get the veteran to Wrigley Field.

And it worked.

In a matter of days, the campaign exceeded its original goal, but, believe it or not, that’s not even the best part. Marcus Lemonis, Chairman and CEO of Camping World and Good Sam Enterprises, and star of the CNBC reality show “The Profit”, just so happened to be looking for a Cubs fan to share his front row seats with and stumbled upon Helen’s request. He responded, offering up his tickets to the cause…free of charge.

Now, you’d think it would be over there, right? Wrong.

The money raised by the GoFundMe campaign is now being donated to the Purple Heart Foundation and Lemonis is matching the $12,800 that was raised and donating the cause as well.
