I’m still updating the trade deadline post below with things as they happen (the going is slow thus far, but it’s awfully early), but I figured everyone might appreciate some reading about the Pirates’ new starting right fielder.
Eno Sarris looks at Snider’s early career profile and notes that while there’s certainly some upside in this deal for the Pirates, Snider’s combination of strikeouts and power should raise some concerns.
Adam Bittner talks to Blue Jays blogger Tom Dakers about Snider.
The Baseball Prospectus Transaction Analysis ($$$) notes that while Snider may have an “impressive prime” in his future, that the trade obviously means the Blue Jays don’t think he’s going to get there.
This is an actual quote from Snider given to MLB.com’s Gregor Chisholm about going to Pittsburgh: “I’m excited to be a part of a contending organization.” That’s both weird and awesome to hear at the same time. In any case, I think Snider will fit in well with all of the other young players in the clubhouse in Pittsburgh and he certainly doesn’t seem upset by the trade.
Dustin Parkes says that this seems like the sort of trade that Alex Anthopolous is often on the other side of.
