In the first inning of today’s Pirates/Blue Jays game in Bradenton, Pedro Alvarez hit a 3-2 pitch over the left field fence. He hit a two-strike pitch the other way and it went over the fence. Sure, the game doesn’t count, and sure, the pitcher was Kyle Drabek and Drabek’s not super-awesome, but it’s spring training and I’m choosing to be excited about this (and about Garrett Jones bombing a homer into the wind, and Starling Marte homering and being on fire this spring) and to ignore Brad Lincoln and Jeff Locke getting teed off on today.
