The San Antonio Express-News tearfully says goodbye to a long-time institution, former columnist and broadcaster Dan Cook who died Thursday at the age of 81. There are many remembrances from colleagues and friends alike. And there are highlights of his 51 year career. You can certainly read the columns and stories about Cook who coined one of the most phrases in sports.
A couple of stories from Dan Caesar of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. First, Dan has St. Louis-native Joe Buck apologizing profusely for his stupid comments about watching “The Bachelorette” over baseball. In his second story, Dan writes about the Sporting News leaving St. Louis after more than 120 years calling the Gateway City its home.
Ken Schott of the Schenectady Gazette writes about a sportscaster formerly from the Capital District who’s calling an Arena Football League game for ESPN tonight. Ken also writes that minor league baseball in the Schenectady area would work.
Neil Best of Newsday has the video of what was to me, the best rendition of the national anthem at a sporting event ever, Wayne Messmer singing the Star Spangled Banner at Chicago Stadium during the First Gulf War just before the 1991 NHL All-Star Game. Great stuff.
