With the New Orleans Saints coming to town, most fans will remember last years debacle which of course was the root cause of Defensive Coordinator JIm Bates losing his job and Raheem Morris taking over the defense after that failed experiment. It was a demoralizing loss that showed the Bucs just how far they had to go to catch up to their division rival. Well perhaps not that far at all, as the Bucs beat the Saints in New Orleans, something not totally unexpected as the road team has won in this match up more often than not. Nope, were going to go back to 2007, when the Bucs came off a terrible 2006 season, one that was equally as dramatic for the Saints but in the opposite fashion. New Orleans found themselves in the NFC Championship game for the first time ever! The Bucs; 4-12. Tampa Bay acquired QB Jeff Garcia and HC Jon Gruden finally had a Quarterback that could extend the play with his legs, and was comfortable in this West Coast Offense. The Bucs roared out to a 21-0 lead, starting out with a Barrett Ruud forced fumble that the Bucs bench had to throw the red flag to get recognized. It’s not a far flashback, but it was the turnaround game for that 2007 team that finished as the last playoff team for Tampa Bay.
