A look at John Farrell's stats

The Blue Jays made a bold move today, acquiring infielder Mike Aviles in a transaction that indicates that Yunel Escobar or Kelly Johnson may soon be on their way out of town. But did they give up too much to get him? They dealt prospect David Carpenter AND pitcher John Farrell.

Farrell is 36-46 for his career, with a 4.56 ERA. His career FIP is a hair lower than his ERA, thanks in large part to his ability to keep the ball in the yard.Really, though, the only thing remarkable about him is that he is 50 years old! That puts Jamie Moyer to shame! It’s hard to see why the Red Sox would give up a major league shortstop for a guy who is definitely not a prospect anymore. Good trade for the Blue Jays!

Oh, wait what? The Red Sox traded for the Blue Jays’ MANAGER? I would rather trade for a 50 year old pitcher. Stupid trade, Boston.
